3 tips to ensure a fun time for the whole family!
Take them at the right age
Pick the show your kids will enjoy most
Prepare for the show
First things first, yes - we are huge Disney fans and Disney on Ice has been on our list to see for a few years. We just went to our first show in December 2023 as there were reasons that kept us from going sooner. These reasons are also the same recommendations I have to ensure you have a good time with your kids!
1. Take them at the right age
This is going to look different for everyone.
Disney on Ice is advertised as fun for the whole family and suitable for all ages, as children under two can watch for free! However, it requires babies, toddlers and kids to sit through a 1.5-2 hour show, with a 15 min intermission. This can be challenging, and only you know how much your kid(s) can handle.
For our family, we wanted to wait until our kids could truly enjoy the experience. At the time of the show, my son was 6 and my daughter was 3. We felt that this was the perfect age for both of them as they understood the story lines and got to sing along to their favorite songs from Frozen and Encanto.
2. Pick the show your kids will enjoy most
There are 5 different Disney on Ice shows for 2024, each with its own theme (all descriptions below taken from the Disney on Ice website).
Find Your Hero
A wayfinding experience with Moana and her crew.
Into the Magic
Seek adventure with Belle, Moana, and sing-along with Miguel from Coco as he follows the music in his heart.
Frozen and Encanto
Get the best of two worlds with Anna/Elsa and the Family Madrigal!
Mickey's Search Party
Help the cast find clues throughout the show to find Tinker Bell.
Magic in the Stars
This is an all-star cast with over 56 Disney characters, including Raya and the Last Dragon.
I'd recommend choosing a show that features your kids' favorite characters and one they can sing along with the most. This will keep them engaged and excited throughout the entire show, making it enjoyable for the whole family!
3. Prepare for the show
#1 - Make sure to feed the kids before the show. Even after feeding them, you will likely still buy snacks to keep them occupied lol.
#2 - The venue is kept to a comfortable temperature, but dress warm and bring jackets just in case.
#3 - Have fun with dressing the kids up in costumes or wear Disney apparel to get in the Disney spirit!
#4 - Listen to the songs they will hear at the show at home and in the car (we did this for a good week). This will get them excited when they recognize the same songs during the show!
Overall, was it worth it?
My kids would absolutely say YES! My daughter still asks if we could go to the "ice show" again.
My husband and I loved watching the kids enjoy the whole show, and as big Disney fans, we really got to experience that Disney magic through our kids eyes.
10/10, yes it's worth going - ENJOY!
