"I've invested in my ***insert retirement account plan here***, but the money has
never grown!"
If this is you, do this now:
Check your account and if all your money is in a "Money Market Fund" or "Settlement fund" then you need to take action now!
You must take the next step and choose specific investments (stocks, mutual funds, annuities, etc.) for your money to actually make you more money.
Remember that retirement accounts are just tax advantage "buckets" for where to invest your money in, but you still need to do the investing.
Here is an example, "how to invest your money in your retirement account", for Vanguard users:
Go to "Manage my money" and choose "Investments"
2. Pick your retirement plan's name
3. Scroll down and find "change how your money is invested"
4. Review and adjust if necessary, both the "Change current investment mix" and "Change paycheck investment mix." This requires you to repeat steps 5-8 for each set up.
5. Click the "(+) Select new fund" link
6. This will open a new screen with your investment options
7. Choose both your investment(s) AND the percentage of money you want to allocate to each investment.
Note: Below is an example only, please do your due diligence in choosing and allocating your investments.
8. Review and submit! Your account should now show your investments and you can watch your money grow overtime.
